If your child requires a hospital setting to receive medical treatment or to recover from procedures, he or she may stay at the Short Stay Unit at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford. Your child will likely only stay in the unit for a short period of time.

Our services include:

• Infusions of medications through intravenous line (IV) access
• Chemotherapy
• Enzyme replacement therapy
• Steroid pulse therapy
• IV hydration
• Antiviral, antibiotic and antifungal therapy
• Immunoglobulin therapy
• Inhaled medications
• Extended recovery for patients following:
  • Liver and renal biopsies done through a needle puncture of the skin (percutaneous)
  • Cardiac catheterization,Ìýcardiac electrophysiology studies, and cardiac biopsies
  • Gastrointestinal procedures
  • Interventional radiology procedures
  • A Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) stay
• Observation Status patients
• Removal of PICC lines (a catheter placed into the vein) or repair of tunneled lines
• Blood draws through central lines
