My Approach
Having a career where I get to use both my brain and my heart is what I enjoy most about being a pediatrician. Every child is unique, so each case is different, which makes every day interesting.
My approach to patient care is shaped by my own experiences as a child. I have a clear memory of going to the doctor and feeling like I wasn鈥檛 part of my own visit. Because of that, I make it a priority to talk to kids first, getting as much information from them as possible. I usually start visits by asking kids what they do for fun to get a sense of who they are. If they are unsure or shy, I then turn to the parents, but I always try to include them in their own care.
Being a parent myself has also helped me understand the practical challenges of raising children. And my experience in the military exposed me to families from all walks of life, allowing me to see a wide variety of medical conditions and patient experiences.
