Education Series Offered For Parents Of Children Diagnosed With An Autism Spectrum Disorder

Enrollment under way for 10-part series starting January 13

PALO ALTO, Calif.聽鈥斅罢丑别听Stanford Autism Center at Packard鈥檚 Children鈥檚聽is offering a 10-part educational series for parents of young children and adolescents with an聽Autism Spectrum Disorder听(础厂顿).

鈥淲e鈥檙e designing this series to provide parents with information about ASD diagnoses, treatment, and services,鈥 said聽Jennifer Phillips, PhD, a clinical assistant professor of child and adolescent psychiatry at the Stanford University School of Medicine and Lucile Packard Children鈥檚 Hospital Stanford. Subjects covered in the 10 sessions, which begin January 13, include the basics of behavior management, how to navigate the service system, research updates, and home strategies for skills building and stress reduction.聽 Phillips will lead the classes along with clinical professor聽Linda Lotspeich, MD.

鈥淭his community of parents is always seeking the latest education and information,鈥 said Phillips, who noted that registration is available for individual sessions or the entire series. 鈥淲e鈥檙e excited about sharing our knowledge, and expect a lot of community interest.鈥 Phillips added that parents can register for individual sessions and may join at anytime during the series. Many sessions apply to parents of any child with ASD; others apply to certain age groups or levels of language ability. 鈥淎t the conclusion of the 10 weeks, we plan to start the sessions again, along with adding any new learnings.鈥
