Lucile Packard Children鈥檚 Hospital at Stanford Awarded CVS Caremark Community Grant

Donation reflects CVS commitment to supporting children with disabilities

PALO ALTO, Calif.听鈥 CVS/pharmacy庐 has awarded a CVS Caremark Community Grant for $2,000 to Lucile Packard Children鈥檚 Hospital Stanford, officials announced today. The gift will help fund the development of an outdoor play area for Packard鈥檚 Outpatient Rehabilitation Program, which provides occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech-language pathology services for children of all ages and abilities.

The new play area will broaden the scope of care for treating patients with movement problems resulting from injury, disease, or congenital conditions, as well as speech and language disorders. It is designed to provide a fun, positive, and nurturing environment for patients in need of rehabilitation, and is expected to be utilized by 6,000 patients annually. 鈥淎n outdoor play area will maximize the overall potential for rehabilitation by allowing for the development of more comprehensive treatment plans,鈥 said Jody Winzelberg, AuD, Chief of Audiology and Director of Rehabilitation Services and the Children鈥檚 Hearing Center at Packard Children鈥檚. 鈥淚t also reinforces the family-centered approach to care by providing an environment where parents can learn skills that they can utilize in their home life, thus directly engaging them in their child鈥檚 treatment plan.鈥

The goal of the All Kids Can program is to create a more inclusive environment for children with and without disabilities to build self-esteem, lasting friendships, and social skills, and to help children without disabilities learn diversity and tolerance.
