Mi acercamiento
The thing I love about survivorship is getting to meet patients and families in the after-treatment period, when we can help patients reacclimate to normal life. Now that the hard part is over, we get to focus on how we can help patients stay healthy—make sure they’re getting enough sleep, spending time with friends, and anything else they want to do, in addition to screening for and managing any residual medical problems or novel late effects of their cancer treatment. I like seeing the journey all the way through to the conclusion.Â
Every time I meet with a patient and family, it’s an opportunity to have a long visit and go over everything, focusing on what’s important to the patient and what they want to talk about, and how we can help. Survivorship is very patient-centered. Â
